First grade is the time to learn about, and to reinforce, story and its elements.  Problem/solutions and predictions fly off the pages as characters come to life.  As such, we begin the year with "old friends" that the children have heard many times and an author that presents these stories traditionally, Paul Galdone.  Then we springboard into spin-offs and twisted tales that expand into plot and character variations that keep each child guessing!
We also dig more deeply in traditional literature  with a Cinderella unit, learn that facts can be fun with non-fiction,  A - N - D finish the year with a topical "how we help others/how they help us" unit.  Mixed between are seasonal reads for holidays.

  • Be on the alert! It's Grandparents' Day!

Be on the alert, moms and dads and all other backpack cleaner-outs!  1A has teamed with the seventh grade and produced amazing lovenotes for their grandparents (Grandparents' Day was this past Sunday).  1B will get a chance to do the same on this coming week.  Please make sure these cards get to the appropriate grannie, grandpa, etc. !
