Kindergarten Library Skills

Kindergarten is the time for listening to literary language and beginning to assimilate the sound and sight of it. Some children will come into school having been read to and with since they have been three or four; for others, listening and imitating what they are seeing and hearing is a new experience.
Because of these differences, kindergarten read-alouds are restricted to simple texts, often repetitive and rhymed. Behavior regarding books--sharing books in several ways--is also incorporated into the brief lessons.
