PARK CITY HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
DISTRICT FACILITIES
The Park City School District has been reviewing its facilities for the past year to ensure our classrooms, building, and properties are of the right size, scope, and makeup to help provide a safe learning environment for our students. A facilities committee has been formed, an owner's rep has been hired, and an architectural firm has been brought in to develop our ideas into a cohesive concept that we hope will gain the community's approval this spring. Information can be found under the "District Facilities Updates" tab on the main page of the district's website.
RECLASSIFICATION TO CLASS B
The Montana High School Association (MHSA), the state organization that oversees high school activities in the state of Montana, has recently redrawn the lines on athletic classification numbers. Classification numbers are based on a high schools enrollment. Park City has traditionally been a large "C" school. Over the past several years now we have been approaching the cap of "C" classification - 108 was the bump up number and we have been 104-106 in the high school. This winter, the MHSA changed the cap number by dropping it to 100. So up to 100 is Class C and 101-300 is Class B. Based on that change, in the 2023-2024 school year we will become a Class B school in all sports but will continue to play 8-man football as those numbers are different. Class B schools in our area include Columbus, Red Lodge, Big Timber, Huntley Project, Shepherd, and Roundup. We will continue to update you on this change.
4 Day Week Calendar
We recently conducted a public survey regarding the implementation of a 4 day school week. The key reasons for looking at this is for teacher retention and recruitment and to decrease lost school time from school activities. The survey was open for 3 weeks. 109 people answered the survey and of those who answered, over 80% were in favor of moving to a 4 day school week next year. Comments that were negatives included scheduling day care and longer days for students. During the December board meeting the trustees asked for a 4 day week calendar option to look at in January.
The calendar options they were provided will be voted on at our February 8 board meeting. Below is a sample calendar and schedule for you to look at as well as some other information.
