Yesterday (Nov. 10) at 12:06 PM, a county truck stopped near the 2nd Avenue SW crosswalk by the school and removed the stop sign that the District installed for student safety. The District purchased the sign and post for $300, and the sandbag base belonged to our maintenance supervisor personally.

That stop sign was placed after a series of near misses involving students and vehicles, especially during the busy drop-off and pick-up times. Its removal was not authorized, and the action was captured on video. The incident has been reported to the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office and shared with the County Commission for follow-up.

We want families to know that the District is addressing the matter directly and will continue to prioritize student safety.
